When to sow rose seeds

When to sow rose seeds

1. When to sow

Rose seeds are usually sown in spring when the temperature is warmer, which is more conducive to their growth. The temperature in summer is too high, which can easily sunburn the seedlings. It can also be sown in autumn, but the growth cycle is short and needs to be prepared for wintering. The temperature is low in winter, so after sowing, we have to wait until spring to germinate.

2. Sowing Method

1. Collect seeds: If you want to grow roses well, you must first choose good seeds. Generally, the fruits will grow in August and September. When the fruits turn red, they are ripe and can be picked. The harvested fruits should be stored in the refrigerator. Low temperature can inhibit the consumption of nutrients. You can also take out the seeds directly, wash them and store them in sand.

2. Select seeds and germinate them: Soak the rose seeds in warm water overnight. After picking out those floating on the water, put the rest into clean water and stir slowly for a few seconds. After taking it out, find a paper towel or soft cloth, soak it with water, put the seeds in it, fold it and put it in a sealed plastic bag.

3. Preparation of potting soil: Mix river sand and perlite in a 1:1 ratio. The resulting substrate is very suitable for the growth of roses. You can also add some compost to provide some nutrients.

4. Sowing: Sow the germinated seeds into the potting soil, but don't plant them too deep. Then put it in a warm place with light. If the temperature is low, you can cover it with a glass cover and take it away for a while every day to allow it to ventilate.
