How to propagate chrysanthemums by cuttings

How to propagate chrysanthemums by cuttings

1. Operation steps

1. First, choose the branches for cuttings. Select a relatively sturdy chrysanthemum, and then break branches from it. Generally, start breaking from the center, and then keep the upper part of the branch. Cut it into lengths of about 0.2 meters.

2. A small leaf bud needs to be retained on the selected branch, and the top bud of the branch must also be retained. Then soak the selected branch in diluted rooting powder for about 120 minutes.

3. Prepare the soil. Generally, choose soil that contains more nutrients, and then put it into the prepared flowerpot. Then water it to soak the soil, and then use a column to insert a small hole in the soil, about 7 cm deep, and then insert the selected branches into it, and then compact the branches with soil.

4. After compacting the branches, pour a small amount of water on them. The branches also need to be sprinkled with water, and then placed in a ventilated and cool place to take root.

5. Make a small shed that can block the sun, cover the flower pot for cuttings, cover it during the day and move it away at night. Be sure to spray the branches with water regularly and evenly to keep the soil moist.

6. After the leaf buds on the upper part grow out, you can expose it to sunlight appropriately, but be sure not to expose it to sunlight at noon.

7. After it survives, it can be transplanted. At this time, you can provide more light, but be careful not to water it too much.

8. As for fertilization, you can choose to apply a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer or compound fertilizer to promote its growth.

9. After growing to a certain extent, chrysanthemum buds will grow. At this time, you only need to keep one bud and pick off the others. Then continue to fertilize them, and around the end of summer or early autumn, the chrysanthemums will bloom one after another.

2. Precautions

Generally, the chrysanthemums we buy and grow at home are the root buds left over after blooming last year. In the spring of next year, we can let the root buds sprout again. If you keep encouraging it to sprout, it will have very long branches in autumn. The chrysanthemums at this time are very unsightly and the number of flowers is also very small, so you can break off these branches and use them for cuttings.
