How to propagate sunflowers

How to propagate sunflowers

1. Planting

The seeds of this flower are very small, and it takes about 8,400 seeds to make up one gram of weight. The method we usually use is to sow them on the seedling tray, slightly cover them with fine vermiculite, or press them slightly after sowing the seeds to ensure sufficient moisture. The germination temperature is between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius. It takes about seven to ten days for the seedlings to emerge. The seedlings are very fragile. If they are under relatively high temperature conditions, they can grow rapidly and then form thicker fleshy leaves. At this time, the seedlings can be moved directly into pots. The required pot diameter is about 10 cm. Three to five plants can be planted in each pot. This way, it is easy for them to survive and the growth rate is also quite impressive. It is extremely tolerant of soil and can adapt to most soils, but well-drained sandy soil is the most suitable. It can spread its own seeds to achieve the purpose of reproduction.

In addition, it has a long growing period, which is not a problem in spring, summer and autumn. The covering soil should preferably be thin, but of course it can grow without covering it with soil. If you are in Sichuan Province, you can sow in September or October. Before sowing, choose an acre of good land and dig a deep trench of about 1.3 meters. The soil for planting should be very flat and loose. The seeds need to be mixed with human and animal manure to form seed ash. Five to six grams of seeds should be sown per acre. When sowing, you should put some human manure into the ditch and then scatter the seed ash into it.

2. Cuttings

Cuttings are usually used for double petals. For cuttings in summer, you can use cut branches. Wilted stems can also be used. When they come back to life, they will have flower buds. It does not require frequent watering when it is growing. The fruit will explode when it is ripe, and the seeds are easily scattered, so they need to be harvested in time. It mainly propagates by seeds and has a strong ability to self-seed. Since the new variety came into being, it has become more difficult to collect its seeds. Especially for double-petaled ones, the seeds will not set after flowering. Therefore, the cutting method can be adopted at home.

3. Division

After harvesting in the summer, dig out the old bags, select the well-grown plants, and divide them into small bags. Based on the row spacing of 30 cm, the distance between the plants needs to be seven to ten centimeters. After that, we need to water them with livestock manure water.
