Seed propagation of Viburnum

Seed propagation of Viburnum

1. Seed harvesting and processing

This is a very troublesome step and requires special attention. Around October or November, we can harvest the seeds. When you observe that the outer skin of the seeds turns black, it means they are ready to be collected. After harvesting, we should immediately store them in sand. Around the Qingming Festival of the following year, take them out, remove the peel and seed shell, and soak them in 0.1% acid solution for about a day before sowing. Without special treatment, the sown seeds are difficult to germinate. 2. Choice of time.

As mentioned above, the time is basically the same as the seed removal and processing time.

3. Choice of substrate

In order to increase the chances of sowing survival, we must of course choose the substrate carefully. Given the habits of this plant, when choosing the substrate we need to consider factors such as whether it is fertile and has good drainage performance.

4. Specific steps

Sprinkle the specially treated seeds as evenly as possible on the substrate, and then cover them with a layer of soil. Note that this layer of soil should be slightly thicker. After that, cover it with a layer of grass. Around June, the seeds will germinate and emerge from the soil. At this time, the covering grass can be removed, but appropriate shade should be provided. It will take about four or five years before the transplant can be officially carried out.

5. Precautions for transplantation

First of all, we should do it in a semi-shaded environment and avoid being exposed to too strong light. In addition, the timing also needs to be noted, early spring is better. In addition, top dressing and water cannot be ignored.
