Jackfruit planting conditions and methods

Jackfruit planting conditions and methods

Jackfruit is a common tropical fruit , crisp and delicious, loved by many friends. Jackfruit prefers warm and humid tropical climate and is not cold-resistant. A high temperature and humid lowland environment is suitable for growing jackfruit. Below, the editor will introduce the planting conditions and methods of jackfruit, let’s take a look.

1. Planting conditions of jackfruit

1. Climate conditions

Jackfruit prefers warm and humid tropical climate and cannot tolerate cold. The annual average temperature of the planting site should be higher than 21℃, the average temperature of the coldest month should not be lower than 13℃, and the absolute minimum temperature should not be lower than 0℃. Such climatic conditions are conducive to the growth of jackfruit and the development of fruits. Jackfruit needs plenty of sunlight, at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight a day to promote photosynthesis and nutrient accumulation.

2. Soil conditions

Jackfruit is not very demanding on the soil, but prefers deep, loose, fertile, well-drained soil, with a pH value between 5.5-6.5 being most suitable. Sandy loam or loam soils are ideal, avoid heavy clay or poorly drained soils.

2. Planting method of jackfruit

1. Seed selection and germination

Choose ripe, pest-free jackfruit fruits and remove fresh seeds from them. After rinsing with clean water, carry out germination treatment. Soak the seeds in clean water for one to two days to soften the seed coat. Then wrap them in moist sphagnum moss or vermiculite, maintain a certain humidity, and place them in a warm environment to encourage the seeds to germinate. Generally, the seeds will sprout roots in about 10-15 days.

2. Prepare the soil

According to the soil requirements of jackfruit, mix garden soil, leaf mold, sandy soil and base fertilizer to ensure the nutrition and air permeability of the soil.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

When the seeds have roots about 1-2 cm, they can be transplanted into seedling trays. The seedling soil should be loose, fertile and have good drainage properties. Direct sunlight should be avoided during the seedling raising period to avoid burning the seedlings. Keep the soil moist, but avoid standing water.

4. Transplantation

When the jackfruit seedlings grow to a size suitable for transplanting (generally when the seedling height reaches 100-115 cm), they can be transplanted. When transplanting, special attention should be paid to protecting the root system to avoid root damage. Transplant the seedlings into the prepared soil, cover them with soil and water them thoroughly to ensure close contact between the soil and the roots.

5. Management points

During the growth period, attention should be paid to proper management measures such as fertilization, watering, weeding, and pest and disease control. Fertilizers can be organic fertilizers and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, applied once a month. When watering, water should be applied in appropriate amounts according to the dryness or wetness of the climate to avoid water accumulation. Weeding should be done in a timely manner to prevent weeds from competing with seedlings for nutrients.

The above is an introduction to the planting conditions and methods of jackfruit. The maturity period of jackfruit is generally between June and August. The storage temperature is best at 10-15℃ and the relative humidity is 85-90%, so as to maintain the quality and flavor of jackfruit.
