How to propagate Osmanthus fragrans

How to propagate Osmanthus fragrans

1. Layering propagation

This propagation method is best carried out during the growing season from May to June. Select branches with stronger growth, peel them in a ring shape, and then wrap them with white plastic film. New roots will grow in about 50 days, and then they can be planted. This method is easier and has a higher rooting rate.

2. Seed propagation

Select fuller and fully ripe fruits, rub them repeatedly in water until the seeds and pulp are completely separated, then select the larger ones, dry them and set aside. Sowing can be done in spring and autumn. If it is spring, the best time is March to April, and if it is autumn, the best time is September to October. First, spread the seeds evenly on the sand bed, then cover it with a 12 mm thick layer of soil, and then cover it with a layer of straw. You can water it now, but be careful not to wash out the seeds, and make sure to water it thoroughly. When small sprouts emerge, you can remove the straw. When the small sprouts grow 2 to 3 leaves, you can transplant and plant them. When planting, the distance between seedlings should be controlled between 15 cm and 20 cm.

The above two methods are more commonly used and have a higher survival rate. It also has another way of reproduction, which is grafting, but this method is more complicated. If there is any operational error, it will directly lead to its failure to survive, so I will not introduce it in detail here.
