Why does Croton variegata drop its leaves?

Why does Croton variegata drop its leaves?

1. Lack of light

Its origin is in tropical regions and it has high requirements for light. If there is a lack of light during the cultivation process, photosynthesis cannot be carried out. Over time, the leaves will become dull and lifeless, and in severe cases, they will fall off. Most of the time, only the old leaves fall off, but the new leaves will not fall off. If you find this situation, move the plant to a well-lit area outdoors as soon as possible, and rotate the flowerpot regularly to ensure even light. The plant will slowly recover after this treatment.

2. Insufficient Fertilization

It likes fertilizer. If the plant does not have enough nutrients during maintenance, it will lead to poor growth and leaf shedding. It is necessary to replenish it in time. It is recommended to add fertilizer every half a month during the peak growing season. Diluted compound fertilizer liquid can be used. Apply thin fertilizer frequently. This can ensure sufficient nutrients and the plant will grow more luxuriantly.

3. Low temperature frostbite

Plants in tropical regions naturally prefer warm environments and are not cold-resistant. During maintenance, you must pay attention to the low temperature in winter. The temperature must not be lower than 15 degrees, otherwise the plants will easily be frozen and leaves will fall. Move it indoors after the temperature drops and control the temperature at around 18 degrees.

4. Too much watering

It has a certain degree of drought resistance. If you water it frequently during management, it will be difficult for the plant to absorb all the water. Over time, the roots will rot and it will not be able to provide water and nutrients to the leaves normally, so the leaves will naturally turn yellow and fall off. The amount of watering should be reduced, and it is recommended to water when the soil is dry and then water when the soil is wet. If the leaf falling phenomenon is serious, you need to remove the plant from the pot and trim off the rotten and dead roots.
