How to plant gardenia seeds

1. Seed collection

Choose ripe fruits that are mature and have no blemishes. Generally, they are ripe if they are dark red in color and look plump. Place the fruit with the shell in the sun or in the shade to dry, and then store it after processing.

Before burying the fruit in the soil, cut the peel or use scissors to take out the seeds. Prepare a basin of warm water, put the seeds in and rub them with your hands to wash away the impurities stuck on the seeds. Let it sit for a while. Some immature, shriveled seeds will float on the water surface. You can pour them out together with the impurities.

The seeds that sink to the bottom are the mature seeds that can be used for sowing. Take it out, place it on a clean cloth or bamboo mat, and dry it in a ventilated place.

2. Sowing time

Seeds are usually sown in spring when the temperature rises and the climate is more suitable.

3. Sowing Method

1. When sowing, it is best to choose soft and fertile sandy loam as the culture medium, and it is better to choose a sunny location or close to the edge of the field. Turn over and level the soil, and clean up impurities and stones in the soil. Deeply plow the soil to a depth of about 1.2 feet. If the soil is good, the ridges should be about 5 feet and 6 inches high. Spread fertilizer at the ratio of 25 dan of human manure per acre of land. After the soil is dry, break up the mud and level the field. Mix the seeds with wood ash, stir evenly and sprinkle it in the sowing ditch. Use about five pounds of seeds per acre of land, cover with a layer of fine soil, cover with a straw mat and then water.

2. At this point, the sowing is basically completed. You need to add water frequently to keep the soil moist. Seedlings will emerge in about 20 days.

4. Post-maintenance

After the seedlings grow out, the straw mats should be removed. After a period of care, when you see the seedlings have five or six leaves, you can start thinning them out. Pull out the seedlings that are too dense when planting, as well as the diseased and weak seedlings that are not growing well. If there are weeds growing in the field, remove them as well.
