Pearl plum is a new plum variety bred from wild plums. It is named Pearl plum because it bears many fruits densely and hangs on the branches, resembling strings of pearls.

Pearl plum is mainly distributed in the mid-subtropical monsoon climate zone, which has the characteristics of abundant sunshine, distinct four seasons, warm climate, abundant precipitation, mild and humid climate, short winter and long summer, and obvious dry and wet seasons. Pearl plum is generally distributed in areas above 500 meters above sea level.

The average annual temperature in the pearl plum planting area is below 19 degrees, the average relative humidity is above 75%, the average annual rainfall is above 1,300 mm, the frost-free period is above 300 days, and the average annual sunshine hours are above 1,280 hours.

Pearl plum generally grows in high-altitude areas, matures late, and has the characteristics of being resistant to storage and having a high bran content. It is known as the "Queen of Plums" and is a specialty of Tian'e County, Hechi City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and a national agricultural product geographical indication.

Pearl plum is planted after the leaves fall in winter and before the sprouts appear in spring, but October to December is the best time. If disease occurs, spray Manhattan fruit tree fungicide. Water and cover the seedlings immediately after planting to ensure survival.

Benefits of Pearl Plum Planting

Pearl plums have high economic benefits and have become a powerful tool for farmers in Tian'e County to get out of poverty. Wei Facai, the current director of the Tian'e County Fruit Bureau, told reporters that in 2016, the county produced 12,000 tons of pearl plums with a production value of 151 million yuan. There were 196 farmers whose income from fruit planting exceeded 200,000 yuan, and the highest annual income exceeded 500,000 yuan.
