How to plant purple-leaf barberry seeds

1. Sowing time

The sowing time will vary depending on the region and climate. The north is an example here. The climate is warm in March and April, and the soil has just survived the winter. Low-temperature sterilization can reduce the number of pathogens.

2. Seed Processing

1. Soak the seeds in diluted carbendazim for one day. During this period, sieve the river sand and add carbendazim to sterilize it. After soaking, take out the seeds and mix them with sifted river sand in a ratio of 1:3.

2. Find a high and leeward place, dig a square pit on the sunny side. There is no limit to the size of the pit, which is determined by the number of seeds you want to germinate. Add five centimeters of river sand to the pit and insert a pipe for ventilation.

3. Pour the above mixture of seeds and sand into the dug pit, cover it with 5 centimeters of river sand, and then cover it with soil, also 5 centimeters.

4. Check the seeds regularly to see if they have germinated. If the temperature is appropriate, you will see the seeds crack and sprout in about ten days to half a month.

3. Seedbed Production

1. Choose soil with good fertility and turn the soil deeply before sowing, at least 30 cm deep. Remove weeds, stones and other impurities. Make a seedbed that is 10 meters long, 1 meter wide, and 20 centimeters high, with each ridge 30 centimeters apart. The bed surface should be flat and the size and specifications should not differ too much. If you are not sure, you can measure and mark in advance.

Choose a sunny day to disinfect the land with carbendazim, preferably five days before sowing.

2. Plant the seeds one to two centimeters apart on the raised bed. After the seeds are sown, cover them with soil about two centimeters thick. Use spraying to water. You can irrigate the ditch between the two beds to provide moisture for seed germination. The soil layer must be completely moist.

4. Post-management

1. Weeding

Weeds may appear after sowing and must be cleaned up in time; even small grasses cannot be easily let go and must be removed once found. The soil can be loosened.

2. After the seeds grow into seedlings, fertilizer should be added. When the seedlings grow to five centimeters, fertilizer should be applied in time.
