How to prune lucky bamboo

How to prune lucky bamboo

Time to prune the lucky bamboo

Generally, it is more suitable to prune the lucky bamboo in summer from June to August, because this is the time when the lucky bamboo grows most luxuriantly and too many branches will grow on the plant.

The pruned branches of the lucky bamboo should be used for cuttings. Cut the bottom of the branch at an angle of 15 degrees, soak it in potassium permanganate solution for a period of time, and then insert the disinfected broken branch directly into a new pot. Keep the water level at 1/5 of the length of the broken branch.

Lucky bamboo pruning

If the lucky bamboo grows tall, you need to use scissors to directly shorten the tall part. The movements should be clean and neat when cutting so that the gap will be smoother and the damage to the plant will be minimal. Because the plant has a lot of water, you must wipe the cut clean with sterilized gauze after pruning.

If you want the lucky bamboo to grow faster, you can choose to break off the new branches on the upper part from the old trunk at the lower part, and grow them in water or plant them in pots after cuttings. This can promote faster growth of the plant.

Things to note when pruning lucky bamboo

The tools used to prune the lucky bamboo must be disinfected because these tools will come into contact with the branches, leaves and plant tissues of the lucky bamboo. Therefore, only by disinfecting all pruning tools can we avoid the lucky bamboo being infected with bacteria and becoming sick during pruning.
