1. Seed collectionGenerally speaking, it is best to sow the seeds one to two days after they are taken out. At this time, the seeds have more moisture and stronger vitality. If they are left for too long, the germination rate of the seeds will be affected. Use scissors to cut off the fruit and the "arrow" together, and peel out the seeds. If the sowing time is delayed, the seeds and "arrow stalks" should be hung in a cool and ventilated place. They can be kept for about a month, but the germination rate will be reduced. 2. Planting timeThere is no seasonal restriction on the planting time of Clivia, and the specific sowing time is determined by the seed maturity time. 3. Sowing Method1. In order to fully soften the endosperm and seed coat, soak the selected seeds in water at about 40℃ for about 30 hours before planting them in the soil, then take them out and let them cool. The treated seeds will produce radicles in about 17 to 20 days. 2. Choose a container that is breathable and easy to drain. A wooden box is recommended. For initial planting, you can choose sawdust or river sand. Here we explain in detail the river sand method. Choose fine sand, wash and disinfect it, spread it flat in a container, place the seeds with their buds facing down, about four centimeters apart, on the sand, and then spread another layer of fine sand on top (not too thick, just a thin layer will do). 3. When using river sand for planting, the gaps are large and the water permeability is strong. If you find that the surface of the pot is dry, you need to spray or water it. Don't water too much. The humidity should reach 40% and the temperature should be kept between 18℃ and 25℃. Once the climatic conditions are created, it will take about a month for the cotyledons to grow. 4. Management after seed germinationAfter the seeds grow into seedlings, they need to be divided into pots. Choose pots with good air permeability, cover the bottom with about 5 cm of soil, and place the seedlings on them. It is best to water them by spraying in the early stage, which can not only increase the humidity, but also prevent water from flowing too much and washing away the seeds and seedlings. Place it in a semi-shaded place for a few days. |
