The propagation method of Dendrobium officinale

The propagation method of Dendrobium officinale

1. Division method

Generally, we choose some plants that grow in relatively concentrated areas. After they bloom, we can cut off their old roots from the base of the stem. During this process, try not to damage their root system, otherwise it will affect the survival rate of the operation. When cutting its roots, try not to use a knife. We can gently separate them with our hands. Put the main plant together, prune the old roots accordingly, place the new sprouts against the center of the pot, add some new soil and compact it, and it will become a new plant.

2. How to cut the sprouts

Choose some plants that have been planted in pots for more than 3 years, and then cut buds for them to propagate. Generally, we choose plants with 3 to 4 leaves, and it is best to have 2 to 3 roots. Then we can cut it off from its mother plant, use some wood ash to treat its wound, and then transplant it into the pot. When planting, you must pay attention to planting it shallowly. Generally, it will start to bloom after 2 years. So this method is still quite fast.

3. Cutting method

Another method is cutting propagation, which is also used more frequently. It is also quite practical. Generally, you choose some non-flowering and very strong branches, and then cut them into several small sections, each with 2 to 3 nodes. Then apply some wood ash on the wound to help it heal. Then we insert it into the prepared soil piece by piece, leaving half of it exposed on the surface, and place it in a semi-shaded and humid place. After planting, remember not to water within seven days. Just spray it with spray to keep it moist, and make sure to provide shade. Generally, after about 30 days, small buds will grow on the nodes. Just transplant it.
