Taboos for growing Staghorn Begonia in winter

Taboos for growing Staghorn Begonia in winter

1. Adequate lighting

Staghorn Begonia prefers warm, dry and sunny places, so it should be placed in a sunny place. If there is not enough sunlight, it will easily grow too tall, so it must not be kept in a cool place for a long time in winter.

2. The temperature cannot be too low

In winter, you should also pay attention to temperature control. It is relatively cold at this time, so you cannot let it stay outside. You should move it to a sunny room for maintenance. When the soil in the pot is relatively dry, it can withstand temperatures as low as minus three degrees Celsius. So you can't let it stay outdoors in winter.

3. No water or mud

If you want to plant it in a pot, the soil in the pot needs to be drained and ventilated. There must be no stagnant water. When choosing soil, the soil should not be too acidic, neutral is enough. In addition, you should use some more fertile and loose sandy loam, so that it can be more breathable.

4. Watering taboos

In winter, you must water less. When the temperature drops below two degrees, you should slowly stop watering. As long as the soil in the pot is kept dry, it can safely survive the winter. Never apply fertilizer too much just to make it grow better, otherwise it will have the opposite effect.

5. Taboos of fertilization

Generally, when it is growing relatively vigorously, we can give it some nutrients and water, but when the temperature is too low, we must stop fertilizing.

6. Pay attention to pests and diseases

If it is not well maintained in winter, its roots may be easily infested with insects. At this time, you must pay attention to deal with these pests in time, otherwise it will directly affect its growth and even die. So at this time we can use some medicine to prevent and treat it, so that it can spend the winter safely.
