How to trim hedgehogs

Purpose of pruning

Before pruning, we must know why we do this, otherwise no matter how good the methods described in the information are, they may not be suitable for you. If you are not looking for styling, just a simple trim will be enough. Cut off the bad branches, and do not leave any dead or diseased branches, so that the healthy branches that are left can grow better.

Time to prune

Pruning can be done in early spring, when dead branches and weak, diseased branches can be removed. There is no need to prune too much after flowering. It is best to keep four or five full buds. This will promote the growth of new buds and make the flowers bloom better in the second year. In summer, the new branches of the year should be pinched off in time so that the flower buds can differentiate better.

In normal times, you can also appropriately add branches that grow too densely, so that the remaining branches can grow thicker and healthier. At the same time, it can increase the surrounding ventilation and light transmission capabilities, making the environment around the remaining branches better. At the same time, you should also pay attention to the timing of heavy pruning, because if the branches are too long and not compact enough, it will affect the shape of the entire tree and cause the flowering position to move outward year by year.

Maintenance after pruning

This plant cannot adapt to an environment with too much water. If there is too much rainfall after pruning, you must pay attention to the drainage conditions around it. Otherwise, water may accumulate in the soil, making it difficult for the roots to breathe, causing the entire plant to grow poorly or even causing the roots to rot directly. Pests and diseases also love to breed under such circumstances. If they do not get enough sunlight, their branches will become weaker and weaker, and they may not even be able to bloom and bear fruit as usual.
