How to pot the Meiguanlan

1. Basic Preparation

We usually choose March-April or October-November to repot the Meiguan orchid. The choice of flower pots is also very particular. Usually we need to use flower pots with smaller mouths, deeper bodies and larger bottom holes. Planting the wild seedlings in a clay pot can allow the orchid mud to dry quickly, and the good air permeability can ensure that it takes root quickly. After 2-3 years, it can be transplanted into a porcelain pot. It should be noted that before repotting, the roots of the Meiguanlan must be soaked in clean water and brushed gently with a toothbrush. The yellow, diseased leaves and rotten roots must be trimmed off. After processing the roots, place them in a cool place to dry.

2. Potting Method

1. Method 1

After preparing the flower pot and plant, hold the orchid upside down under a slow stream of clean water to rinse. Grasp the orchid head with two fingers, press the little finger against the edge of the flowerpot, and use bamboo chopsticks to fix the roots of the orchid. Pour the mixed gravel until it reaches one-third of the bottom of the pot, then pour in medium-sized planting particles to four-fifths. Pull out the bamboo chopsticks, shake the flowerpot to make the planting material firm, and then use tools to level the surface.

2. Method 2

Cover the bottom of the purple clay pot with perforated nylon yarn. Before transplanting, lay coarse stones that account for about two-fifths of the total volume of the pot and 3-5 cm thick coarse stone culture soil on the bottom of the pot, and then place the orchid in it. When potting, be sure to keep the roots spread out, not curled up. When planting the crown orchid, be sure to move the old grass to the edge and place the new grass in the center of the pot, so that the new grass has space to grow.

During the planting process, hold the orchid with your left hand, add soil with your right hand, and then lift the orchid slightly to ensure that the roots are naturally stretched. Gently shake the flowerpot while adding soil to allow the soil and roots to fit tightly together. Finally, pile the surface of the pot into a "steamed bun shape" that is slightly lower in the middle and around the edges, and then cover it with a layer of moss.
