Reproduction of the flaming azalea

Reproduction of the flaming azalea

1. Cutting propagation

In May and June, take 5 to 6 cm healthy, semi-lignified branches, remove the leaves in the lower half, and leave 2 to 3 leaves on the top. Soak the base with some solution and carry out cuttings in soil rich in humus and loose and breathable. The temperature should be maintained at 20~25 degrees Celsius, shade should be provided and moisturizing spray should be applied frequently to promote the germination of new roots.

2. Seed propagation

Artificial pollination

Because the fruit set rate of natural hybridization is very low, artificial pollination is often used to implement sexual reproduction. The main method is to select beautiful and strong mother plants and transplant them to the greenhouse when the red azalea is growing vigorously. We select 3 to 4 flowers that bloom early and are larger in each pot of mother plant, remove their stamens and new buds, and when there is mucus on the stigma, we use a brush dipped in pollen to apply it on it.

Picking seeds

About a week after pollination, move the pot outdoors, fertilize with water, and take good care of it. After 5 to 6 months of development, you can observe that the fruit gradually turns brown, which proves that the seeds have grown. Pick them, winnow them, and place them in a ventilated and cool place.

sowing

When sowing, try to choose a shallow clay pot and use sterilized loose soil. When sowing, spray the shallow basin with moisture, spread a layer of charcoal chips and sterilized soil on the bottom, then compact it, place the seeds in grids on it, and press lightly. After sowing, it usually takes five to six weeks for the seeds to germinate.

Maintenance

When the seedlings grow three or four true leaves, gently take them out and plant them separately. After planting, pay attention to shade and avoid sun and rain. Fertilize when the seedlings grow to about 10 cm. We can increase the speed of plant blooming by pinching the tops of the plants. Thinning the flower buds in advance can prevent the flowers from clustering. This can also make the flowers grow better and help the plants thrive in the second year.

The above is the reproduction method of the red azalea!
