How to reproduce the iron chopsticks

How to reproduce the iron chopsticks

1. Seed propagation

When the seed coat changes from green to yellow, usually in mid-May, pick the seeds and dry them in a cool place. After picking, it can be dormant and then planted in the spring of the following year, or it can be planted in the summer of the same year. The helleborus prefers shade and moisture, so the nursery should be placed in a dark and humid environment. First, spread a three to five centimeter layer of humus on the ground bed, then spray disinfectant after spreading it evenly. Since spring sowing seeds have been stored dry for a period of time, they need to be soaked in warm water for two to three days. Be careful not to let the water temperature be too high. Draw shallow trenches three to five centimeters in depth on the nursery, with a distance of twenty centimeters between two trenches, sow flower seeds in the trenches, level the bed surface, and finally cover it with a shade film. Avoid sunlight and keep moist.

two. Seedling propagation

When seedlings are removed at the junction of summer and autumn, those with about two flower buds on the rhizomes can be transplanted. The management after transplantation is basically the same as the sowing propagation method, just pay attention to keeping away from light and keeping moist.

Note: In the wild, iron chopsticks generally grow in brown soil or gravel soil with more sand and stone. They grow well with sufficient fertilizer and water supply. However, it should be noted that top dressing should not be done during the early spring flowering period and the high temperature in summer to avoid causing flowers to fall or burning roots. When the temperature is too high, be sure to increase the amount of watering. Due to the particularity of its growing season, there are few diseases and pests, but attention should be paid to clearing weeds in time to avoid affecting plant growth due to weeds competing for fertilizer and water. Generally, it does not bloom in the year after reproduction.

As a rare variety that rarely blooms in early spring, the iron chopstick plant adds color to the monotonous spring, and therefore has an irreplaceable special position in gardening. I hope this article can help you avoid detours on the road of breeding iron chopsticks and reap your own beautiful early spring.
