Lantern flower cultivation methods and precautions

Lantern flower cultivation methods and precautions

Lantern flower , also known as fuchsia, is a plant with high ornamental value. The leaves of the lantern flower have various shapes and the flower shape is unique, like an inverted lantern or bell. The stamens are slender and extend from the corolla, shaped like the handle of a lantern. Below, the editor will introduce the cultivation methods and precautions of lantern flowers. Let’s take a look.

1. Soil

Lantern flowers like loose, fertile and well-drained soil. You can choose sandy loam or peat soil, and add an appropriate amount of decomposed organic fertilizer to improve soil fertility. Before planting, disinfect the soil to eliminate potential pests and diseases.

2. Temperature

The suitable temperature for the growth of lantern flower is approximately between 15-25℃. Avoid high temperatures in summer. When the temperature exceeds 30℃, the plant will enter a semi-dormant state. In winter, the room temperature should be kept above 10℃ and the temperature should not be lower than 5℃, otherwise frost damage is likely to occur.

3. Lighting

Lantern flowers prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight. If there is insufficient sunlight, it will easily cause the plant to grow too tall and the number of flowers will be greatly reduced. However, in the summer, appropriate shading is needed and the lantern flower plants should be moved to a ventilated and cool place to avoid long-term direct sunlight to prevent the leaves from curling.

4. Watering

During the growing period, the soil in the pot should be kept moist, and the principle of "dry when dry and wet when wet" should be adhered to. During the flowering period of the lantern flower, the soil in the pot must not be too dry or too wet, otherwise it will easily cause buds, flowers or leaves to fall off. During the semi-dormant period in summer and in winter, watering needs to be controlled to prevent leaf shedding and root rot.

5. Fertilization

Lantern flowers like fertilizer, so apply enough organic fertilizer before planting. Since the lantern flower grows relatively fast and can bloom continuously, it should be applied with cake fertilizer water or thin liquid fertilizer every 7-10 days during the growing period. Nitrogen fertilizer should be controlled in the early growth stage, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be increased during the flowering period.

6. Pest and disease control

Lantern flowers are easily affected by pests such as aphids and red spiders. The growth of the plants should be checked regularly, and if pests and diseases are found, timely measures should be taken to prevent and control them, such as spraying pesticides or using biological control methods. At the same time, pay attention to removing diseased leaves, dead branches, etc. to keep the plants clean.

7. Notes

Lantern flowers grow fast and generally need to be repotted and the soil changed once a year. When repotting, choose suitable pots and soil to ensure good growth of the plants. At the same time, the plants should be pruned, and old roots and diseased and weak branches should be cut off.

The above is an introduction to the cultivation methods and precautions of lantern flowers. Lantern flowers have strong adaptability to the environment, but in the cold winter, you need to pay attention to keeping warm to avoid being affected by the severe cold. When maintaining indoors, ensure that the temperature is appropriate and increase ventilation to avoid being in a closed environment for a long time, which may cause the breeding of pests and diseases.
