Why can't we plant sunflowers at home?

Why can't we plant sunflowers at home?

1. Insufficient indoor lighting

You can actually grow sunflowers at home, but it's difficult for them to grow well. Because sunflower is a positive plant, it needs to ensure enough light time throughout the entire growth and development period, so it needs an environment with sufficient light conditions to grow vigorously, otherwise it will affect the differentiation of sunflower flower buds. Moreover, sunflowers have a strong phototropism. Before the flower disk blooms, the leaves and flower disk on the plant will rotate in the direction of the light. After the flower disk blooms, the sunflower will open fixedly to the east. Because of this special habit, sunflowers cannot adapt to the insufficient light conditions indoors, which will eventually lead to poor flowering and seed setting.

2. Limited indoor growing space

Most sunflower varieties can reach a height of 2-3 meters, but the space at home is obviously not enough to meet the growth needs of sunflowers, so they can only be planted outdoors. However, some dwarf varieties of sunflowers have been cultivated, which are ornamental sunflowers. The plant height is usually between 50-70 cm. These varieties are more suitable for planting at home.

3. Feng Shui

Another saying is that the word "kui" in "sunflower" is homophonic with "ghost" in "ghost", so sunflowers are unlucky in feng shui. In fact, this is unfounded. It’s just that sunflowers are indeed not suitable for indoor growing conditions, so they are over-interpreted.
