How to water bougainvillea

Water once every five days in spring and autumn, and once every one to two days in summer when the temperature is high. If the plants are found to be wilting, you can spray water to reduce temperature and increase humidity. After winter, reduce the frequency and amount of watering, and water once a week is sufficient. After the bougainvillea sprouts buds, start controlling the water. Do not water unless the soil is dry. When you do water, water thoroughly and avoid water accumulation.

How to fertilize bougainvillea?

If you want your flowers to grow beautifully, fertilizing is essential. Fertilizing bougainvillea before it buds during its growth period can accumulate nutrients for the buds and make it bloom faster. When applying fertilizer, you can use phosphorus fertilizer or decomposed fertilizer water. In principle, apply small amounts and multiple times. Don't be greedy or you will burn your roots.

How does Bougainvillea bask in the sun?

Bougainvillea loves sunbathing the most, so the best way to grow bougainvillea is to grow it outdoors. Generally, the daylight exposure time of Bougainvillea needs to reach eight or nine hours a day, otherwise it is easy to grow tall and not bloom, and even if it blooms, the flowers will fall off. When bougainvillea is first potted, it should be placed in a cool place for maintenance, and it can be maintained normally after about two weeks.

What kind of soil is best for growing bougainvillea?

Bougainvillea is a flower with relatively strong survival ability. It does not have high requirements for the environment and can survive even in poor soil. For bougainvillea potted plants, choose sandy soil with excellent drainage and rich in humus. Don't use clay. If you use peat soil or garden soil, add some perlite.

How to prune bougainvillea?

Many flower lovers are reluctant to prune their flowers, and Huahua can understand that, but Huahua strongly recommends pruning and shaping the flowers, because the more you prune the flowers, the more vigorous they grow and the more flowers they will bloom. You have to give to gain.

Pruning method:

1. When to cut?

Red bougainvillea is pruned in March or April in spring.

Purple bougainvillea needs to be pruned twice a year, first in spring before it sprouts, and then again in late November.

2. Specific pruning methods

1) Cut off thin and weak branches and overgrown branches!

Look closely at your bougainvillea. If you notice a lot of spindly branches other than the main trunk, cut them off immediately.

2) Cut horizontal branches and crossing branches!

Some flower branches on the plant are parallel or crossed. Cut them off. Otherwise, the flowers will grow too densely and not only will it be difficult to bloom, but it will also be easy to cause diseases due to lack of internal air circulation.

3) When the sprouts appear, cut them!

When the plant just sprouts, it should be pruned and topped. For example, if a new branch has just grown several pairs of leaves, cut off the top pair of leaves.

4) The flower buds are too dense, cut them off!

Bougainvillea grows relatively quickly. Sometimes several flower buds appear on one branch. They need to be pruned off appropriately, leaving only one or two.

5) After the flowers bloom, cut them!

The remaining flowers of bougainvillea should be cut off in time after they fade, as leaving them will only disperse the nutrients.

4. Pruning precautions

During the pruning process, many flower lovers will overlook one thing, which is to disinfect and sterilize your tools. If this small step is done well, it will greatly reduce the chance of flowers being infected by pathogens.

How to propagate Bougainvillea by cuttings?

This season is suitable for cuttings, flower lovers, hurry up and get moving~

Cutting method:

1. Selection of cuttings

Select current year, strong, semi-lignified bougainvillea branches, cut about ten centimeters as cuttings. It is best to cut them all at once, and keep a pair of leaves at the top of the cuttings.

2. Selection of cutting medium

The medium for bougainvillea cuttings can be coarse sand, peat soil and cinder. Generally, peat soil is chosen and some vermiculite and perlite are added.

3. Cuttings.

Prepare a flower pot, fill it with peat soil, and use a wooden stick to dig a hole in the soil, seven or eight centimeters deep. Then insert the cuttings into the hole and compact the soil. Water thoroughly, cover the plant with a plastic bag or plastic wrap, and then move it to a cool place and keep it ventilated and exposed to scattered light.

4. Plant in pots.

Generally, the roots can grow in one month, that is, the bougainvillea seedlings are placed under scattered light conditions for a week. Then pour out the seedlings and plant them into the culture soil together with part of the cutting medium, and then you can maintain them normally.
