Where do pineapple seeds come from?

The reason why the pineapple you bought has no seeds is because the pineapple you bought is sterile. This is because pineapple is self-incompatible, which means that it cannot self-pollinate to produce seeds. It needs to be cross-pollinated to produce seeds.

Pineapple Seed Dispersal

The ovary of pineapple is underdeveloped, so seeds are rarely seen. The fruit of pineapple is a multiple fruit, which is composed of fleshy bracts growing on the thick and fleshy central axis, and underdeveloped ovaries arranged in a spiral shape. Pineapple mainly reproduces asexually through sucker buds and crown buds.

How to get pineapple seeds

Choose a healthy, larger pineapple, cut off the crown bud, and cut at the junction. Wash all the flesh clean. You will see dots on the cut surface, which are the root primordia. Roots will grow from these places in the future.

Pineapple Seed Planting

Pineapples are highly adaptable to the environment and have no specific planting time. In areas suitable for planting, they can be planted all year round except for certain dry and cold periods. It is best to plant them from March to September each year.

1. Process the seeds: Harvest the pineapple seeds in advance, choose healthy and plump seeds, and germinate them before sowing to increase the germination rate. Prepare warm water, soak the seeds in warm water for a while, and then soak them in a carbendazim solution for disinfection. Take them out and put them aside to dry.

2. Prepare the soil and sow: Prepare the soil for sowing, then sow the seeds evenly, cover with a soil layer of about one centimeter, spray water appropriately to keep moist, and control the temperature at around 20-30 degrees Celsius to promote seed germination.

3. Planting management: After germination and emergence are stable, you can plant. After planting, you need to do a good job of management, provide sufficient water, apply fertilizer in time, meet the demand for potassium fertilizer, and do a good job of weeding.
