How to grow the maidenhair fern in winter?

How to grow the maidenhair fern in winter?

1. Pot soil selection

First of all, we have to choose the right soil! The first choice is a mixture of half mountain forest soil and half garden soil.

2. Watering and fertilizing

Watering should be sufficient during the growing season to promote lush growth. Reduce watering in winter and ensure that the soil in the pot is slightly moist. Low temperature and high humidity can easily cause root rot.

3. Fertilization Tips

In winter, the temperature of the maidenhair fern is relatively low and its overall physiological activity is not vigorous. Therefore, it is best to apply less fertilizer or simply stop fertilizing in winter to ensure that the plant can safely overwinter.

4. Placement

After winter, move it indoors and place it in a place with dispersed light. Be careful not to avoid direct sunlight. To keep it safe through the winter, keep the room temperature at around 10℃. Place indoors in a sunny place in winter. It is not cold-resistant. When the wintering temperature is not lower than 5℃, the leaves will show symptoms of cold damage.

V. Other matters needing attention

The temperature is relatively low in winter, and the maidenhair fern will be affected by the temperatures of morning and evening frosts, causing frost damage. If the room temperature is kept at 10℃ or above in winter, the leaves can remain green. The maidenhair fern is particularly afraid of heat, especially direct sunlight, but it cannot be completely deprived of sunlight. It is best to place it outdoors under a large tree or in the shade in the summer. You can also move it outside at night and bring it back inside during the day.
