How to divide Agapanthus?

Division time:

The best time to divide Agapanthus is between March and April. This can be done at the same time as turning the soil and changing the pot. But after spring division, it will not bloom in the same year. The plants can also be divided in autumn. No matter when you divide the plant, you have to wait until the next year for it to bloom. Generally, division is done about once every three years.

Division method:

Loosen the old plants that are too dense. It is best to plant 2 to 3 clumps in each pot. In fact, the method of dividing Agapanthus is very simple and rough. Just select healthy and plump rhizomes and cut them directly and insert them into new pots, but you must ensure that each of the cut plants has a complete root system.

Notes on division:

If the plant is not divided for a long time, it will affect the growth speed and health of the plant, and its flowering will also be affected.

Each new plant should have 2 to 3 new shoots.

The newly divided agapanthus potted plants should not be placed in the sun for the time being. Wait about a week before exposing them to the sun.

When planting the newly divided agapanthus in a flowerpot, it should not be planted too deep, otherwise when the roots grow up, they will fill the flowerpot and it will be impossible to water it.

It is recommended not to choose a flowerpot that is too small. The diameter of the flowerpot should be about 35 cm. The soil height should be about 25 cm.
