How to Propagate Clivia

How to Propagate Clivia

1. Seed Harvesting

First, seeds must be collected. Clivia generally needs pollination to produce fruits. The pollination is usually when the flowers open and the perianth cracks. The buds will mature in about 2-3 days. At this time, there is mucus on the stigma, so pollination can be carried out.

When pollinating, dip the brush in pollen and apply it on the stigma of the pistil.

Pollination usually takes place once in the morning and once in the afternoon, and the seeds will mature in about 8/9 months. When its fruit turns black-purple, it can be cut off. The seeds can be taken out after 10 days.

2. Sowing

After the seeds are harvested, we can sow them. When sowing, choose pots and soil with good air permeability.

Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water at about 30℃ for about half an hour. After drying, they can be sown in flower pots.

When sowing, sow the seeds on the soil, make sure the buds are facing downwards and arranged one by one. Then cover the seeds with a layer of sawdust, compact it and spray it with water. Be sure to place it in a cool and ventilated place to keep it moist.

Keep the seedling temperature between 15℃ and 30℃ and keep it moist. Generally, if the maintenance is good, it will germinate in about half a month. After germination, take good care of it and transplant it at the appropriate time.
