Tip 1: Pruning

Pruning branches

This is what the bougainvillea looked like when I first bought it. Like most bougainvilleas grown by flower lovers, the branches are messy and shapeless. Therefore, Dongguan Shan decided to use scissors to do a heavy pruning. She cut all the areas marked by the red arc in the picture below, and also cut off the horizontal branches on the main trunk below.

Keep 4 and remove 2

After heavy pruning, if you want to make it into a lollipop shape, you need to keep pinching the tip and top. After the new branch grows 6 leaves, pinch off the middle 2 leaves, leaving only the bottom 4 leaves.

Continue to pick

After pinching the tips, keep 4 and remove 2 as new branches grow out, and repeat this cycle until a compact and three-dimensional spherical shape appears. Now you can let it bloom.

Tip 2: Fertilization

Bougainvillea likes fertilizer. In addition to applying some chicken manure or self-fermented organic fertilizer before planting, you can also apply Meroke water-soluble fertilizer once a week during the growing period. Apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers during bud formation.

Tip 3: Lighting

Bougainvillea loves light very much, as long as it is exposed to more sunlight, it is not afraid of the summer sun.
