How to propagate Nephrolepis

The propagation method of Nephrolepis fasciata by division

Division propagation is the most commonly used method of propagation for Nephrolepis ferns. Division can be done throughout the year, but is generally done in spring when the ferns are divided into pots. It is simple and easy. When the temperature is stable in spring, divide the plants into pots and plants. Knock the mother branches of the kidney fern out of the pot, take two to three strong and tender branches and plant them in the pot. After planting, place them in a cool place for maintenance.

Spore propagation of Nephrolepis

All ferns can be propagated by spore propagation, and of course the same is true for kidney ferns. Evenly spread the collected mature spores in the substrate (the substrate should be loose, breathable and rich in nutrients, such as leaf mold, peat soil or a mixture of the two), then lightly cover them with a layer of substrate, water them sufficiently, and place them in a cool place for maintenance.

Tissue propagation of Nephrolepis

Tissue propagation is generally not commonly used because it has very high requirements for the environment, requires multiple sterilizations and disinfections, and ensures that the growth environment is sterile. The breeding steps are as follows: first, take explants, such as the tips of rhizomes, spores, etc. Then cut the tip of the stolon, soak it in alcohol for half a minute, sterilize it with mercuric chloride for six minutes, and finally rinse it with sterile water several times before inoculation. It should be inoculated into a hormone-free culture medium. Seedlings will grow about two months after inoculation. Finally, the newly grown seedlings should be transplanted and maintained in a cool place.
