How to care after budding

Peony flowers usually begin to bud in April, when the leaves gradually unfold and the buds slowly grow out. Generally speaking, when peony flowers bud, in addition to a main bud, many side buds will also grow. At this time, in order for the peony flowers to bloom more beautifully and larger, it is necessary to thin out the buds and remove the side buds so that nutrients can be concentrated on the main buds of the peony flowers.

Bud thinning method

When thinning the peony buds, it is usually done when the buds grow to about 1 cm. Generally, the main bud and one side bud should be retained, and the remaining buds need to be cut off. If the main bud is damaged, the side bud can replace it when it grows to a certain extent.

When thinning the buds of peonies, you should choose to do it in the morning on a sunny day, so that the wounds on the peony flowers will heal quickly and reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. When thinning buds, use sharper scissors to cut off the buds that need to be cut. When cutting the buds, do not damage the leaves of the peony, so as not to affect photosynthesis, reduce the supply of nutrients, and affect the flowering of the peony.

Precautions

After the peony flowers bloom, it is necessary to cut off the remaining flowers in time to reduce nutrient consumption. Top dressing is also needed at this time. When the leaves turn yellow in autumn, they need to be cut off in time, and the plant needs to be watered and fertilized to ensure it can safely overwinter.
