How to sow February orchid

Sowing Tips

Sowing method

The sowing of February orchid can be carried out by broadcasting or row sowing. The row spacing needs to be 15 to 20 cm when sowing in rows. When broadcasting, tools are needed to turn the soil and bury it after sowing. If conditions permit, special tools can be used for sowing or mechanical sowing. However, no matter which method is used for sowing, the target needs to be leveled after sowing and suppressed in time.

Sowing period

The best sowing time for February orchid is August, and the latest should not exceed September or 10th. If sown late, the seedlings will be small and easily die during the winter.

Seeding rate

2 grams/㎡, row sowing can save about 20-30% of the sowing amount compared to broadcasting. If the land preparation quality is good, fine soil can relatively save the sowing amount.

Strictly control the sowing depth

Shallow sowing is advisable. When the soil moisture is sufficient for emergence, the sowing depth can be 1-2 cm. In plots with poor soil moisture, the sowing depth can be 2-3 cm.

Maintenance Tips

soil

February orchid does not have high requirements for soil. Loose, fertile and well-drained sandy soil is preferred. Potted February orchid has relatively high requirements for potting soil. Mix 6 parts of garden soil, 1 part of wood ash and 2 parts of perlite evenly, and place sufficient base fertilizer in the pot.

illumination

February orchid is a short-day plant, so the daily sunshine time does not need to be too long, and scattered light can be used indoors.

temperature

February orchid is cold-resistant, and the most suitable temperature for growth and flowering is between 15 and 25 degrees.

Fertilization

February orchid likes fertilizer, and sufficient fertilizer can promote its flowering and fruiting. Fertilize 4 times a year. Fertilize the flower buds in early spring, fertilizer for strengthening the plants after the flowers fade, fertilizer for strengthening the fruits after fruit setting, and fertilizer for strengthening the seedlings before winter.

Pests and diseases

Common pests include aphids, snails, cabbage worms, leaf miners, etc. If pests are found, they must be treated with drugs in time.
