How to propagate air plants

How to propagate air plants

1. Seed propagation

1. Artificial pollination: If you want to obtain the seeds of air plants, you must pollinate them artificially. Since it can self-pollinate, you can take the pollen from the stamens and sprinkle it on the pistil to complete the pollination. It must not come into contact with water before and after pollination, otherwise it will greatly affect the success rate. After four months, seed pods will grow.

2. Collect seeds and sow them: Take out the seeds from the seed pods and sow them immediately. Since it does not grow in soil or water, you don't have to bother preparing the potting soil; just find some stones or dead wood to plant it in.

3. Maintenance and germination: The seeds should be placed in a humid environment, but without stagnant water. The temperature should be controlled above 20℃, and it should be given appropriate light, but avoid direct sunlight. After 5-6 days, the seeds turn green, which means they have germinated.

4. Seedling management: Air plants take a long time to grow during the seedling stage. At this time, just ensure the appropriate temperature and sufficient light, and spray some water when it is dry. The temperature is too high in summer and needs to be cooled down appropriately. When the temperature is below 10℃ in winter, it is also necessary to keep warm.

2. Division propagation

1. Separate side buds: After the air plant blooms, it will grow many side buds. The side buds grow very quickly, and when they are the right size, they can be separated from the mother plant. After separation, the side buds and mother plants must be carefully cared for to ensure their quick recovery.

2. Subsequent maintenance: Leave the separated lateral buds for one month and spray them with water once a week, but do not soak them in water. Wait until new roots grow out, then you can put it on the plate and then carry out normal maintenance.
