How to grow gardenia

1. Soil culture

1. Soil: Gardenia is an acidic plant, so the soil for growing it should preferably be acidic soil with good air permeability, which is more conducive to its growth. During the cultivation process, the pH value of the soil should be tested frequently. A value greater than 7 means it is alkaline. Once the soil is found to be alkaline, measures should be taken. You can pour a few drops of vinegar or mix leaf mold into the soil. These things can change the soil quality.

2. Light: Gardenia is a semi-shade plant and requires a certain amount of light. Six hours of diffuse light is required every day.

3. Watering: It likes moisture but cannot tolerate waterlogging. Make sure to water it two or three times a week, but don’t water it too much, because gardenia has fleshy roots, and too much watering will cause root rot.

4. Pruning: Gardenia will grow better after pruning, so it needs to be pruned after flowering every year to stimulate growth.

2. Hydroponic farming

1. Change water: The water of hydroponic gardenias should be changed frequently, preferably every two or three days. Spray its branches and leaves with water in the morning and evening.

2. Nutrients: During the growth and flowering period of gardenia, its demand for nutrients is relatively high. It is difficult to meet its needs relying solely on the nutrients in the water, so every time you change the water, you need to add a few drops of nutrient solution to the water.

3. Light: Like gardenias grown in soil, gardenias grown in water also need diffuse light. Just ensure six hours of diffuse light a day.

4. Pruning: After the flowering period of gardenia, there will be many dead branches and flowers, so these need to be pruned away at this time to concentrate the nutrients and prepare for flowering next year.
