Cotton is widely planted in all cotton-producing areas in China and has replaced tree cotton and grass cotton. The main cultivated varieties in China include S-type cotton, De-type cotton, Dai-type cotton, and Ke-type cotton. Recently, new high-yield varieties have been bred, including the Lumian No. 1 variety in the north.

Cotton growing conditions

Cotton is a light-loving crop and is suitable for growing in an environment with plenty of sunlight. A dark environment is not conducive to its growth. The plant is insensitive to the length of light and can be divided into early-medium maturing, early maturing and extra early maturing varieties.

Cotton growing temperature

1. Cotton needs more heat during its growth period to meet the conditions of soil and water. Cotton will begin to germinate when the average daily temperature is 10-12 degrees. The most suitable temperature is 25-30 degrees. It is appropriate to sow when the soil temperature is 15 degrees and there are about 6 sunny days.

2. If the daily average temperature is higher than 20 degrees, with timely watering, it only takes 4-7 days for the seedlings to emerge. If the temperature is low, the seedlings will emerge slowly. If the temperature is above 15 degrees and there is continuous rain, it will be unfavorable for the growth of seedlings. When the soil temperature drops to 3-6 degrees, some leaves will be frozen. When it drops to 1-2 degrees, part or all of the plants will be frozen to death.

The growth process of cotton

After sowing cotton, it grows very fast and will sprout in a week. The entire seedling period takes about a month. June and July are the bud stage, and then from flowering to boll opening is the boll stage, which takes about two months. The period from the beginning of cotton boll opening to the end of harvesting can be called the boll opening period.

Cotton planting time and method

Cotton is generally planted around April to May in spring. First, you need to select some healthy cotton seeds, and then sow them into loose and fertile soil. Apply enough base fertilizer before planting, then water them thoroughly, and then cover them with a layer of film. After the seeds germinate, you can transplant the seedlings into the field for maintenance.
