Cutting propagation method of Podocarpus

Cutting propagation method of Podocarpus

Cutting time of Podocarpus

It can be carried out in spring and autumn, but the effect is better in spring. The best time in the south is mid-April.

Cutting method of Podocarpus

Before cuttings, the lower 2/3 of the cuttings should be immersed in the prepared naphthaleneacetic acid rooting solution. The cutting depth should be 3-4 cm, and the spacing between cuttings should be 3-5 cm. In order to ensure that Podocarpus can get uniform light, the leaves should be facing the same direction when cuttings are taken. The leaves are generally along the longitudinal direction of the seedbed to promote early rooting and germination. After the seedbed is filled, water it thoroughly in time to ensure that the soil is moistened so that the loosened soil is in close contact with the cuttings. After the cuttings are completed, spray the leaves with carbendazim or other disinfectants in time to reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. The spraying concentration can be slightly higher, and it is best if the leaves are white after spraying. After that, you should immediately build a small arch shed and support it with bamboo strips. Insert a bamboo strip every 1.5 meters on both sides of the seedbed. Finally, cover it with plastic film to maintain humidity.

Management of Podocarpus after cutting

Watering

Just make sure the soil is alternately dry and wet. You can use rooting water, which is the water used to soak the cuttings and pour it directly into the pot. The force should be light, which can not only disinfect the cutting medium again, but also make the river sand and the cuttings combine tightly. You can also mix carbendazim and rooting powder with water, spray the entire box for disinfection, and cover it with a glass plate.

Fertilization

Foliar fertilization should be carried out frequently after cuttings. After callus tissue is formed and young roots grow out, nitrogen fertilizer solution can be sprayed. After a large number of roots have grown and before transplanting, the concentration of nitrogen fertilizer sprayed can be appropriately increased.

Post-maintenance

From the time of cuttings to the time when root buds appear, avoid exposure to the sun, provide shade, and ensure that the shading rate exceeds 75%. Every morning when the temperature rises, open the glass plate and spray it once, which is equivalent to moisturizing the leaves; do not touch or turn the cuttings at will, and remove the glass plate in summer.

Pest control

During the cutting period, Podocarpus is susceptible to diseases and pests such as anthracnose, aphids and moths. Pay attention to timely prevention and treatment.
