How to propagate aquatic plants and what to pay attention to

Aquatic plant reproduction method

There are four ways to reproduce aquatic plants, namely sowing, cuttings, division, tissue culture and spore reproduction. Its seeds can also be reproduced, and its natural reproduction method is also seed reproduction.

Aquatic plant breeding time

Aquatic plants can reproduce and survive all year round. If they are propagated by division, it is usually carried out from April to July each year. At this time, the growth momentum is strong, and division is conducive to survival, with a high survival rate.

Aquatic plant propagation method

Propagation of water grass by division

Prepare sharp scissors, choose vigorous aquatic plants, cut off the small sprouts with strong growth, prepare clean plain sand as the cutting medium, and then you can directly insert the small sprouts into the plain sand. Then keep it moist and at a suitable temperature, and it will take root and sprout after a period of time.

Waterweed cutting propagation

Choose the center of the water plant and cut it off 5mm below the node, then bury it in the sand. The mother plant with the upper half cut off will still grow many side buds from the node and grow into side branches. When the side branches are more than 7cm, they can be cut off 5mm below the node and then inserted into the sand.

Aquatic plant propagation

First, spread a layer of large-grained water grass mud on the bottom of the water tank, then sprinkle the water grass seeds into the water tank, cover the seeds with a layer of mud, spray water inside, and it is best to seal it with plastic wrap, keep the temperature at 25-30 degrees, and ensure at least 8 hours of light a day.

Notes on aquatic plant breeding

The main methods of reproduction of aquatic plants are sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is to complete the reproduction of offspring of aquatic plants through the processes of flowering, pollination, fertilization and fruiting, while asexual reproduction is to use the regeneration ability of the plant's roots, stems, leaves and other nutritional organs to germinate and produce adventitious roots, and finally grow new aquatic plants.
