How to plant Podocarpus seeds

Preparation of Podocarpus seeds

After collecting the Podocarpus seeds, store them for sowing in a dry and ventilated place. It is best to seal them and put them in the refrigerator. This way, the seeds will not germinate prematurely and will not lose moisture.

Sowing seeds of Podocarpus

Before sowing, the seeds need to be soaked in warm or cold boiled water for about 4 days to allow them to fully absorb water, which is conducive to improving the germination rate. The spacing between rows and plants should be 10x20 cm, and the depth should be enough to cover the seeds, then cover with grass to keep them moist. Spray water once a day after sowing. The grass cover can be removed after about 8 days. Also avoid exposure to the sun and provide shade.

Seedling cultivation technology of Podocarpus

Generally, the seeds will germinate about 40 days after sowing. Pay attention to the spacing between the seedlings. If they are too dense, the seedlings can be transplanted with soil to the vacant places. Also, avoid watering the new seedlings to ensure their survival rate. After the seedlings have grown about 6 leaves, you can sprinkle some biogas-diluted water on them. It is best not to use chemical fertilizers. The seedlings grow slowly, so they can be transplanted after one year, with the plant spacing and row spacing both being 20 cm, or they can be moved into nutrient bags, with one plant in each bag. Transplant again after one year. After three years of seedling cultivation, the seedling height can reach 1-1.3 meters, the crown width can reach 1 square meter, and the crown is in a tower shape. It can be used for gardening or continue to be cultivated into large seedlings.
