Osmanthus fragrans cuttings

When to take cuttings of Osmanthus fragrans

When cultivating Osmanthus fragrans, cutting propagation is the main method. The best temperature for rooting of Osmanthus fragrans cuttings is 25℃-28℃. When taking cuttings, if it is soft branch cuttings, it is generally done in May-June. If it is hard branch cuttings, it can be done in September-October. Please note that temperatures that are too high or too low are not conducive to the rooting of Osmanthus fragrans. If the temperature is too high or too low, measures must be taken to save it. If the temperature is too high, you can cover it with plastic film in time and increase the light appropriately. If the temperature is too low, shade is needed and ventilation is increased.

Cutting method of Osmanthus fragrans

When taking cuttings of Osmanthus fragrans, the first thing to do is to choose the soil. The soil is generally loose, fertile, well-drained, sandy soil, requiring a higher level of humus. Before cuttings, the soil must be disinfected.

The second most important thing is the cuttings. Take suitable cuttings in the morning or evening or on cloudy days. The cuttings should preferably be semi-lignified branches and cut into 10 cm sections. Keep 2 to 4 leaves on the cuttings, and stick some rooting powder on the bottom.

Just insert the processed cuttings into the soil, and after careful care for a period of time, they will take root and survive.

Precautions for cutting of Osmanthus fragrans

When taking cuttings, the soil humidity should be kept at around 50%, and the air humidity should be relatively high, maintained above 85%.

In the early stage of cuttings, the cuttings need to be shaded with an intensity of 80%. After the cuttings grow and begin to take root, start to increase the light.

When the cuttings have been growing for about 10 days, you can spray them with a little potassium dihydrogen phosphate, etc.
