How to determine what fertilizer to use for your flowers

Plants lack calcium

symptom

When the plant lacks calcium, the edges of the leaves will turn yellow and wither, and become hooked. The roots will grow poorly, the root tips will turn brown, and the roots will rot and crack, or even be on the verge of dying.

Workaround

Calcium fertilizers (such as lime) can be added to the potting soil to improve plant growth.

Plants lack iron

symptom

When plants lack iron, the old leaves remain green, but the new leaves turn yellow, and the veins do not turn yellow. Later the leaves turned yellow-white and the veins gradually turned yellow. When plants are severely iron deficient, small spots will appear on the leaves, the leaves will dry up or even die.

Workaround

Apply a fertilizer containing ferrous sulfate to the roots of the plants, or spray a foliar fertilizer containing iron on the leaves of the plants.

Manganese deficiency in plants

symptom

When the plant is deficient in manganese, there will be yellow-brown or reddish-brown spots on the top of the leaves, the leaves will be grayish white, and the small spots on the top will gradually expand until the leaves wither.

Workaround

Apply manganese-containing fertilizers to plants in a timely manner.

Plants lack phosphorus

symptom

When the plant lacks phosphorus, it grows slowly, flowering is delayed, the leaf color turns into a dull dark green, the plant loses its luster, and small purple or red spots appear. In severe cases, the leaves die.

Workaround

Apply phosphorus-containing fertilizer to the plants.

Potassium deficiency in plants

symptom

Brown spots appear on the leaves of flowers, old leaves become abnormally wrinkled and bent, and the edges become burnt.

Workaround

Supplement the plants with potassium-containing fertilizers.

Magnesium deficiency in plants

symptom

The leaves of the plant start to turn yellow from the lower half upwards, and then the leaves of the entire plant turn yellow, while the veins remain green. If not treated in time, the leaves will turn brown and die.

Workaround

Feed the plants with a magnesium-containing fertilizer.

Sulfur deficiency in plants

symptom

The leaves begin to turn yellow starting from the veins, then slowly develop red spots, eventually leading to the death of the entire plant.

Workaround

Apply sulfur-containing fertilizer to the plants.

Boron deficiency in plants

symptom

The tops of flowers stop growing, new leaves become deformed and shrunken, leaf veins turn yellow, and plant growth slows down. When boron deficiency is severe, the plants will no longer bloom and bear fruit.

Workaround
