How to propagate Drosera

How to propagate Drosera

Cutting propagation

Since most varieties of sundew can be propagated by leaf cuttings, leaf cuttings are generally used for sundew propagation. Of course, you can also choose thicker stems for cuttings. The specific method is to cut off the entire leaf of the sundew, and then place the leaf flat or obliquely into the soil. At this time, keep the soil moist and provide sufficient light. It will take about a month for the cuttings to take root, and then we can plant the rooted leaves.

Seed propagation

The seeds of sundew are produced after flowering and are very small. When sowing, we first prepare suitable soil, and then sow the seeds of sundew evenly on the soil. Be careful not to cover the seeds with soil, just sow the seeds on the soil. After sowing, it should be placed in an environment with sufficient light, suitable temperature and high humidity. Generally, it will germinate within one month. If it is a variety of spearmint grown in temperate regions, low temperature stimulation is needed to help the seeds germinate.

Winter bud propagation

Some varieties will grow some bulbils under the stimulation of low temperatures in winter. These bulbils are also called winter buds. We can pick these bulbils with toothpicks. Since these bulbils are not resistant to preservation, they must be sown immediately. Also, we must maintain an environment with sufficient light and high humidity. The sown bulbils only take two weeks to germinate, which is a very quick way.
