How to propagate mallow

How to propagate mallow

Seed propagation

Mallow is generally propagated by sowing, which is usually carried out in early spring or late autumn. Mallow seeds need special treatment before sowing. We need to lightly roast the seeds with fire to make the seed shell burst, so that moisture can enter the seeds and promote seed germination. The soil for sowing should not be too acidic. When sowing mallow, water the soil thoroughly, and then spread the mallow seeds evenly on the soil. Since the mallow plant is relatively large, attention should be paid to water and fertilizer management after sowing the seeds.

Cutting propagation

Mallow can also be propagated by cuttings. We first select a relatively strong mallow plant and cut a relatively thick branch, about ten centimeters long, retaining the leaves and top buds on the upper part, flatten the base of the cut branch, insert it into the prepared fine sand, water it with appropriate amount of water, and then place it in a shaded place. It will take about a month for it to take root. After the roots have grown, transplant them into the growing soil.

Layering

In addition to the above two methods, you can also use layering to propagate mallow. Properly trim the mallow branches close to the soil, then bury them in the soil and wait for a period of time. After the mallow branches buried in the soil take root, you can cut the secondary mallow branches from the original plant and plant the roots in the prepared soil. The layering propagation is completed.
