How to grow a small banyan bonsai

How to grow a small banyan bonsai

1. Breeding environment

1. Potting soil: It is best to use loose and breathable soil for growing small banyan bonsai. It can be prepared by mixing leaf mold, garden soil and sand.

2. Watering: Do not water too much. You don’t need to water the plant if it is kept moist. If you water too much, water will accumulate and cause root rot or death.

3. Light: It is best to place it in a place with sufficient light and ventilation. It likes sunlight. If there is not enough light, it will cause yellow leaves or leaf fall. However, it should be properly shaded in midsummer and not exposed to direct sunlight.

4. Fertilization: Apply fertilizer in moderation. Reduce the amount of fertilizer in winter, or stop fertilizing directly. When applying fertilizer, apply the fertilizer into the potting soil and do not splash it on the leaves. Water the plant in time after fertilizing. Normally, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are the main fertilizers.

2. Breeding Methods

Grafting propagation: Generally carried out in early spring, the scion should retain 1-2 leaves and side buds. After inserting it into the rootstock, it should be tied tightly with plastic strips. After grafting, the rootstock should be cut, and 20 cm long branches should be retained at the interface, and the tender shoots should be cut off.

3. Common pests and diseases

If the small banyan bonsai is often kept in an unventilated and stuffy growing environment, it is easy to have scale insects. After discovery, it should be cleaned with a brush in time. In serious cases, you need to buy drugs for prevention and control. Its roots may also develop root rot due to bacteria. It is necessary to check without damaging the root system, cut off the rotten roots, and use drugs for prevention and control.
