How to Grow Lilies at Home

How to Grow Lilies at Home

1. Planting time

Lilies are suitable for planting in September and October in autumn. At this time, the temperature is just stable at around 15 degrees Celsius, which is very conducive to its germination and growth, and is helpful for its later growth.

2. Prepare the bulbs

Suitable bulbs are an important basis for growth. They should be full and substantial, without any bumps or damage on the surface. After selecting the bulbs, they must be disinfected and soaked in a carbendazim solution. After about 20 minutes, they must be taken out, cleaned, and dried before being planted.

3. Pot soil selection

Its roots are relatively developed, so you need to choose a deep pot with a diameter of about 20 cm. The soil must have good drainage and air permeability. It can be mixed with peat, river sand and perlite in a ratio of 2:2:1. You can also add a little base fertilizer. Clay must not be used.

4. Planting bulbs

Put 10-15 cm of soil in the prepared flowerpot, then put the bulb in with the scale opening facing upwards, cover it with about 5 cm of soil, and water it thoroughly.

5. Post-maintenance

After the bulbs are planted, the pots can be placed in the shade for 1-2 days, and then placed in scattered light to acclimate. Do not expose them to strong sunlight at first, and keep the shading at about 60%. Wait until the growth is stable before exposing them to sunlight.
