When pruning and shaping the trumpet creeper, the overall shape depends on the supports it relies on.

If trumpet creeper is grown as a wall greening plant, it can be planted close to the wall and needs to be manually pulled to the wall. When it starts to grow, the branches can be fixed with nails. As it grows, it no longer needs manual pulling. When it starts to grow, the main vines should be evenly distributed and don't leave too many. Generally, 3 to 5 main vines are enough. When the main vines grow to a certain height, they need to be pruned and side branches selected so that the shape will be fuller and better looking.

If the trumpet creeper is planted next to a tree, it will continue to grow upwards as the tree grows.

If there is no support when growing trumpet creeper and it is allowed to grow naturally, it is more suitable for potted plants because the plant will not be tall. Potted trumpet creepers can be cut off about 10 cm from the ground in autumn and placed in a cold room to overwinter. In summer, cutting off the new branches can produce more new branches and more flowers. In addition, potted trumpet creepers can be tied into some shapes to make them more ornamental.
