What are the methods of propagating Asparagus

Seed propagation of Asparagus cochinchinensis

Asparagus can be propagated by seeds. The fruits of Asparagus mature in autumn. We can harvest the fruits when they turn from green to red between September and October every year. The harvested fruits cannot be sown immediately. We need to pile up the asparagus seeds for fermentation and choose large and full seeds for planting. Generally, seeds are sown in spring and autumn. The germination rate of seeds is higher in autumn, but the land is occupied for a longer time and daily management is more troublesome. The germination rate of seeds is relatively low in spring, but the land is occupied for a shorter time and management is more convenient.

When sowing, dig a small hole of about five centimeters. If planting in a large area, keep the seed distance between two or three centimeters. After sowing, fill the hole, cover it with fertilizer or wood ash, and then cover it with straw to keep it moist. The temperature should be kept between 17 and 20 degrees, and the seedlings will emerge in about 19 days. After the seedlings emerge, pay attention to shading the plants and build a shelter. At the same time, maintain appropriate humidity and keep the soil moist. When the seedlings are about three centimeters tall, pay attention to weeding and fertilizing, and they can be transplanted after one year.

Propagation of Asparagus cochinchinensis by division

Choose a large and strong Asparagus as the mother plant. We can divide one Asparagus into at least three clusters. Each cluster must have two to five buds and more than three small roots. The smaller the incision, the better. In order to prevent infection, you can apply lime on the incision. After the divided plants with the lime are spread out to dry for one day, they can be planted.
