How to reproduce strawberries

Seed propagation

Strawberry is a plant with very small seeds. Each seed is embedded in the skin of the fruit and can be seen. It is small and tender and easily damaged.

When taking the seeds, use a blade to scrape off the seeds together with the peel, then put them in gauze, wrap them up, rub them in water, squeeze out the water, then put them on paper to dry, and after they are dried, rub them again to remove the peel attached to the seeds.

Finally, you can separate the seeds and peels and plant them.

Although seed propagation is convenient and simple, its productivity is very low and the quality of the strawberries grown is not high.

Propagation by stolon division

Because strawberries will grow a large number of runners during their growth period, you can use the sub-plants produced on the runners for reproduction and seedling cultivation.

First, prepare the mother plant. You need to select healthy and pest-free runner seedlings for breeding.

When selecting potting soil for planting, you need to choose soil that is fertile, not easy to become compacted, and has convenient drainage and irrigation. After choosing the potting soil, you need to apply fertilizer with rotted manure.

Secondly, transplanting should be carried out in spring. When transplanting, the soil should be covered reasonably, not too thickly, and attention should be paid to the bent and protruding side of the rhizome facing the inside of the bed.

Management after planting

After planting, water the plants immediately with sufficient water. Subsequent watering can be based on weather conditions, watering when it rains and watering more when it is dry. During this period, do not apply top dressing, just ensure sufficient base fertilizer.

Pest and disease control

During the fixed growth period, pests and diseases such as cutworms and white grubs are prone to occur. Timely prevention and control should be taken. You can mix 2.5 kg of 1.5% organic phosphorus powder with about 20 kg of fine soil and spread it evenly.

Strawberry diseases include gray mold and root rot. At this time, you should use 250 times Bordeaux liquid.
