How to prune peach during its growing period

Basic knowledge of pruning peach during the growing period

Pruning peach trees during their growing season, also known as summer pruning, can reduce useless growth, saving nutrients and improving light, laying the foundation for the formation of graceful peach trees. Different varieties, tree ages, tree vigor and climatic conditions will also affect the time and frequency of summer pruning, so it needs to be arranged according to the actual conditions of the planting environment. Generally speaking, pruning is done about 2 to 5 times from flowering to around August.

Pruning method of peach during growing period

Bud removal

Branches and buds will grow on the inner part of the crown and need to be removed in time. In addition, the back buds on the main branches, the competing buds under the cut, and the buds on the upper part of the branches after flowering all need to be removed. Remove one of the two tender shoots and wipe out the strong shoots of the young tree. This will get rid of useless branches and ensure that the peach tree grows healthily, absorbs nutrients adequately and enjoys sunlight.

Topping

By removing a small section of tender branches at the top of the branch, you can control the growth and lengthening of the top, which is beneficial to ensure the fullness of the flower buds at the bottom of the branch. Moreover, pinching can also promote the sprouting of lateral shoots of peach trees before the growth of new shoots, and will also make the flower buds fuller.

Twist

Twist the upper part of the woody, upright, vigorously growing branch at the end of the tree 180 degrees and tuck it into the leaf axil of the lower part. This will change its growth direction and encourage it to grow into branches that bear flowers and fruits.

Pull branches

Pull the main branches or side branches apart to the angle required by the tree shape (about 80° is most suitable), and don't forget to fix them. Remember not to use too much force to pull it into a bow shape, otherwise other branches will grow easily. Also, don't pull it lightly, as the angle is not big enough. This method can prevent the bareness of the lower part of the branches and make the tree more moderate.

Pruning of peach trees during their growing period is very important. I hope the above methods can help flower lovers.
