How to propagate Begonia

How to propagate Begonia

Division method

Division time

Do it before bud break in early spring or after leaf fall in autumn and winter.

Select branches

The crabapple tree has grown to maturity and has sprouted tillers at the root zone.

The division process

Dig out the suckers from the selected crabapple tree roots and cut them carefully, or cluster 2 to 3 rooted shoots together for transplanting.

After transplanting, water the plants thoroughly in time. During daily management, pay attention to moisturizing the plants and provide shade when necessary. Water the plants in time when drought is found, but be careful not to allow water to accumulate. Do not allow water to accumulate. Do not allow water to accumulate. I say this three times because it is important!

It won't be long before new branches begin to grow where the stump was cut off. In autumn or early spring, dig out the plant with new branches and transplant it. This will be a new crabapple tree.

Layering & root cuttings

Layering time

Layering and root cuttings are best done in spring.

Layering method

For young seedlings, you can bend the branches and place them close to the ground, then press the bent branches into the soil.

For large seedlings, use the high-pressure method. The part pressed into the soil should be cut with scissors or other sharp blades, and then the cut part should be pressed into the soil.

Regardless of the ground pressure or high pressure, the soil must be kept moist, and after the roots have grown, they can be cut off from the mother plant and planted separately.

Root insertion operation

Root cuttings can be done when transplanting seedlings. The first step is to select the roots, choose the main root that is longer and thicker. Then use scissors or other sharp blades to cut the selected roots into small sections of 10 to 15 cm and bury them in the soil. Remember to bury it shallowly and cover it with grass to keep it moist so that it can survive easily.
