What is the medicinal value of mimosa?

Functions and indications of Mimosa pudica

Mimosa pudica is sweet, astringent, cool and slightly toxic. It has the effects of diuresis, relieving cough and reducing phlegm, calming the nerves and relieving pain, clearing away heat and detoxifying, dispersing blood stasis and stopping bleeding. It can be used to treat colds, fever, neurasthenia, insomnia, and can also be used to treat bronchitis, gastritis, enteritis, malaria and other diseases; it can be used externally to treat swelling and pain from falls, sores, hemoptysis, and herpes zoster.

Dosage and Usage of Mimosa

5-8 qian, apply appropriate amount externally, mash and apply to the affected area.

To treat cough: 15 grams each of mimosa and auspicious grass, 10 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus, decocted in water and taken orally.

To treat colds: 15 grams of mimosa, 10 grams each of honeysuckle and chrysanthemum, decocted in water and taken.

For treating high fever in children: decoct 10g of the whole herb in water.

For treating neurasthenia and insomnia: 15g of Mimosa pudica and 10g of Ziziphus jujuba seeds, decocted in water and taken orally.

To treat herpes zoster: mash fresh leaves of mimosa and apply externally.

Clinical Application of Mimosa pudica Root

It can be used to treat chronic bronchitis. Take 2 taels of fresh mimosa roots and 600 ml of water, simmer together until 100 ml, and take it twice a day. A course of treatment is 10 days.
