Snow peas are a kind of vegetable that many people like to eat. They are edible young pods that are rich in nutritional value, taste refreshing and sweet, and have good planting benefits. So what month is the snow pea planting season? Let’s learn more about it below. What month is the snow pea planting season? 1. Winter cultivation Winter cultivation of snow peas is a common planting method in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Usually, fallow land is used for planting. The seeds are usually sown from late October to mid-November, overwintered in the open field, and harvested in April to May of the following year. 2. Spring cultivation Snow peas are sown in late February to early March in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. In the Northeast region, spring sowing is generally carried out in April and May. If needed, they can be sown earlier by covering with small sheds, ground films, etc. 3. Autumn cultivation For autumn cultivation of snow peas, you can choose early-maturing varieties, sow them in early September, and harvest them before the cold wave arrives in late November. How to grow snow peas 1. Land preparation and sowing Direct seeding is the main method, with ridge or furrow cultivation. Before sowing, apply 2000 kg of organic fertilizer and 20 kg of superphosphate per mu, plow and level the land to make ridges or furrows. The seeds can be soaked to accelerate germination before sowing. Soak the seeds at room temperature for 2 hours, and treat them at 5℃ to 6℃ for 5 to 7 days. Sow when the buds grow to 5 mm. 2. Seedling management Do not water the snow peas before they sprout, water them lightly before they bud, and water them thoroughly from bud to flowering. During the seedling stage, soil loosening should be carried out to promote root growth, enhance photosynthesis, and accelerate plant growth. 3. Flowering and pod-setting period The cultivation density of snow peas is high, and generally three topdressings are needed. The first time is applied during the period of vigorous vine growth, with 15 kg of compound fertilizer or 400 kg of human manure per mu; during the podding stage, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are applied, with 15 kg of diammonium phosphate, potassium sulfate or potassium chloride per mu, to increase the yield. After flowering, when the pods grow to 2-3 cm, apply fertilizer and water, and apply 15 kg of urea or 20 kg of compound fertilizer per mu along with watering. 4. Build the scaffolding at the right time When the tendrils of the plant appear, a frame should be erected in time. Bamboo poles can be inserted into a single row of vertical frames, and the vines can be manually guided onto the frames or tied. When the plant grows to 15 nodes, it should be topped off and the old and yellow leaves at the bottom should be removed to improve ventilation and light transmission. Anti-drop spray can be sprayed to prevent flowers and pods from falling. 5. Harvest at the right time The edible young shoots can be harvested at any time, and the edible young pods can be picked before the grains are full. Generally, the pods can be harvested about 10 days after flowering when they are fully enlarged but the seeds are not yet full and bright green. That’s it |
