What are the methods of breeding the Chinese giant pearl?

sowing

Although the sown seedlings will bloom more slowly, they will be healthier and stronger and look more reassuring. However, the sowing method is not easy to survive. In places where the sowing conditions are not good, flower lovers can use the cutting method for propagation. However, when there is no mother plant, you can only buy seeds to sow!

It is mostly sown in spring. The seeds of the Chinese giant plant are relatively large and can be soaked in warm water for 12 hours before sowing. Use the spot sowing method with a plant spacing of 3×5 cm. In an environment of 20-25℃, seedlings will emerge in 10 days. Transplant once when the seedlings have 3-4 leaves, and put them in pots when they are 10 cm tall, with 1-3 plants per pot. They will bloom in the second year.

The seeds can be sown in shallow pots in March and April every year, and the temperature should be maintained at 24°C. Seedlings will emerge in 10 days. When the seedlings are ten centimeters tall, they can be repotted and transplanted. They will bloom in the second year.

Cuttings

Cuttings are generally carried out in spring and autumn, and can be done by branch cuttings, leaf bud cuttings, or root cuttings.

Branch cuttings: Choose strong one-year-old branches and cut them into 2-3 sections. Keep the top leaves and cut off 1/2. Insert them into plain sandy soil. Keep them in the shade and maintain humidity. They will take root in 20 days and can be planted in pots after 35 days.

Leaf bud cuttings: Take the side buds on the branches as cuttings, cut them with a small section of branches, and then insert them into the substrate, with the buds exposed outside the substrate. Shade and maintain for 20-25 days to take root, and pot them after the leaf buds sprout.

Root cuttings: This can be done in conjunction with repotting, by cutting the root-like runners on the soil into 8-10 cm segments as cuttings. The substrate should be peat, vermiculite, perlite, leaf mold or sand with good permeability, but it is better to be acidic.

Cuttings are generally carried out in May and June every year. You can choose the top tender branches of healthy and disease-free branches, or you can cut the old branches at the bottom into 8-10 cm stem segments as cuttings. Bud grafting is to take the lateral buds on the branches, with part of the wood, as cuttings. Root cuttings are made by cutting the root-like runners into 8 to 10 cm long cuttings. The cutting bed can be made of peat, perlite, leaf mold, river sand and vermiculite. It is best to do cuttings in spring and autumn. The suitable temperature for cuttings is 21°C, and the temperature of the cutting bed is 26°C, which is very beneficial for rooting. Roots will take shape 3 weeks after planting. If the base of the cuttings is treated with 0.5% to 0.8% indolebutyric acid solution for 1 to 2 seconds, rooting can be fast and more abundant.
