How do peonies survive the summer?

How do peonies survive the summer?

1. Prevent Fertilizer Deficiency

Within half a month after the peony flowers have faded, apply a compound fertilizer mainly composed of phosphorus fertilizer. At the same time, you can also apply some decomposed and fermented farmyard manure. If the plant does not grow well after flowering, you can also use 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution for foliar topdressing. This can make the plant lush and enhance the plant's resistance to adverse living environments.

2. Watering at the right time

Peonies are generally watered once every seven or eight days, and watering should be done in the early morning or evening. The soil must be kept moist, but not too wet, and certainly not waterlogged.

3. Pay attention to shade

Peonies like sunshine but do not like the strong direct sunlight in summer. When the light is strong, it is very likely to cause the peony leaves to wilt and turn yellow. When planting in the ground, you need to choose a higher place facing east and sunny. In summer, when the light is strong, it is best to provide shade at noon. Potted plants should be placed on a sunny east-facing balcony, such as a south balcony or roof platform, and shade should be provided on the west side.

4. Strictly prevent diseases

In an environment of high temperature and high humidity, leaf diseases such as peony brown spot and gray mold are most likely to occur. Discover the disease, identify the type of disease in time, and take appropriate measures.

① Brown spot disease, also known as red spot disease, often causes premature withering of leaves and affects the growth of peony. To completely remove diseased and damaged parts, spray 600 times diluted 50% carbendazim or 3 degrees lime sulfur mixture to kill the pathogens on the plants. After the disease occurs, spray 1000 times diluted 50% carbendazim or 500-600 times diluted 65% mancozeb, once every 7 to 10 days, and spray three or four times in a row. The planting density should be moderate, and organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer should be applied.

②Anthrax occurs more frequently in Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Wuxi, Zhengzhou, Xi'an and other places. Anthracnose often causes peony leaves to appear as dry spots, diseased stems to twist, and young branches to die. Minimize sources of infection. At the early stage of the disease, spray 500 times diluted 70% Anthraquinone or 1% lime-equivalent Bordeaux mixture or 500 times diluted 65% Mancozeb, once every 10 to 15 days, for a total of two or three times.

③Ring spot disease, also known as white star disease, is a common leaf spot disease of peony. The disease is more serious in Beijing, Changsha, Zhengzhou, Guiyang and other places. Remove fallen leaves of diseased plants promptly and spray 3 degrees of lime sulfur before the plants sprout to kill the pathogens on the peony plants. After the disease occurs, spray 1% lime-equivalent Bordeaux mixture or 50% thiophanate-methyl 800 times solution or 65% mancozeb 500 times solution, spray two or three times in a row, once every 10 to 15 days. Prune dead branches and dense branches and leaves in time to improve ventilation and light conditions.

④ Gray mold disease can occur during the growing season of peony, which seriously harms young plants and causes lodging and withering of seedlings. Remove dead branches and leaves from diseased plants and bury the diseased remains deeply. Once the disease occurs, the following pesticides can be used for spray control: 1% lime-equivalent Bordeaux mixture, 1000 times diluted 70% thiophanate-methyl, and 500 times diluted 65% mancozeb. Spray once every 10 to 15 days, and spray two or three times in a row. Drain water promptly after rain and do not allow the soil at the base of the plants to become wet.
